About the Organizers

Indian Minorities Economic Development Agency, a section 25 not for profit company, registered in 2015 in New Delhi, is working on the vision of connecting youth to opportunities by multiplying the community level processes through building leadership, empowering civil society groups and creating networks, executing programs in entrepreneurship, skills development and livelihood security by facilitating partnerships across the public and private organizations and creating synergies for economic opportunities for the youth and empowerment of economically weaker sections among minorities in India.

Introduction

Fish production in 2016 reached an all-time high of 171 million tonnes, of which 88 percent was utilized for direct human consumption, thanks to relatively stable capture fisheries production, reduced wastage and continued aquaculture growth. This production resulted in a recordhigh per capita consumption of 20.3 kg in 2016. The sector's contribution to economic growth and the ight against poverty is growing. Strengthened demand and higher prices increased the value of global ish exports in 2017 to USD 152 billion, 54 percent originating from developing countries.

Uttar Pradesh has the largest area under loodplain wetlands in India (152000 ha) followed by Assam (100000 ha) West Bengal (42500 ha), Bihar (40000 ha). State rank of UP in total ish production is 8th, in inland ish production is 3rd, ish seed production is 6th, in inland ishery resources is 7th. The state of Uttar Pradesh has vast and varied inland fisheries resources which are at various levels of utilization.

The current government of Uttar Pradesh under its fisheries policy is very keen to get this sector wings to ly and generate employment through ish production, value addition, hatcheries, ish-seed production, opening of new feed units etc.

There is a need that fisheries entrepreneurs should get exposure to all latest technologies, research. In this context, Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development jointly with Department of Fisheries, Government of Uttar Pradesh is organizing a day-long International Conference & Expo on on Fisheries Entrepreneurship 2020 at Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Telibagh, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on 30th August -2020.
